Creatively speaking, MonkeesBlood has gone from strength to strength these last 3 or 4 years. We're a small digital design studio offering graphic, web design and illustration services now based in NYC… but we've been dedicating a lot of our time recently learning digital sculpture/ 3D character modelling…another service we can now offer potential customers.

 

As with most creative projects here at MBC, our LG figurine's origins began with an illustration  of a generic Mod character drawn several years ago. In the end the drawing unintentionally turned out looking more like a caricature of the infamous Oasis & Beady Eye front man William John Paul "Liam" Gallagher.

 

It goes without saying, we always loved the music from British rock'n'roll band, Oasis and thought the cocky, sure as sh*t attitudes of the Gallagher brothers made them cool as hell. Back in May 2016… MonkeesBlood Creative Studio decided to put our new 3D sculpting skills to good use and went about creating a digital, sylised character of the Oasis front-man himself, loosely inspired by that original caricature illustration we created years prior.

In the beginning that's all our digital LG sculpture ever was, a stylised 3D character design study, an in-house 'studio challenge' to show off the newly acquired skills in our portfolio…

 

It wasn't until we posted our early zBrush 3D concept on social media and received some superb feedback from all of you lot out there; that we really saw his true potential as an art toy. We thought "sod it, what the heck…" and decided to pursue the idea of taking him into production as our very first designer toy.

 

Well the long wait is almost over… we have spent some time refining this figurine, (not to be all George Lucas, 'Special Editions' about it) but mainly making improvements as we've also grown as digital sculptors since we began the project last May. On top of that, our moulding and casting of our original overly complex prototype proved to be quite a challenge (as you probably saw on instagram & twitter)…so we needed to take a step back towards the drawing board to see how we'd proceed…

We're excited to announce that our Beastly Toyz toy manufacturing business plan was accepted. This means that in Q2 | 2017 Beastly Toyz are at last able release a limited number of high quality, 3D printed, resin LG v1 figurines… 48 figurines to be precise. That's not to say we won't re-print another 13cm variation of LG v1 at some point in the future, but LG v1 will help us finance and support the NG v1 and our other Sub-Sculptures projects too, let's put it that way.

 

This is why it was so important to sign up for our Monkee-Mailer, you stand a much better chance of getting your hands on one…because you'll all receive an email when LG v1 goes LIVE in our upcoming online store. We have a feeling they're going to go like hot cakes.

 

• Output: Each LG v1 will be 3D printed using SLA (stereolithographic) equipment in a lovely matte grey resin capturing all his details.

• Figurine: LG v1 will stand at 13cm tall when mounted on his LG roundel base.

 

• Packaging: LG v1 will be contained in a 2-part, 'well smart', matte black cardboard canister.

Each container will bear tastefully designed box artwork with premium vinyl decals on its exterior. Since we're also Graphic Designers and illustrators…it's always about those small but special details for us, that we hope you too can appreciate.

 

In the next few weeks hopefully we'll get our packaging looking as close to the look and feel of this rendered mock-up below, which we're very happy with.
